AYNI refers to the way of cooperation and reciprocal solidarity that exists in the indigenous peoples of Alto Peru. As a way of democratic exchange, it was based on solidarity work and mutual help within the Ayllu, establishing ties of family reciprocity among the members of a community.
In the same way, the new WiayAyniMarka Cultural Center is called to be the new place of physical and social convergence of the city. It’s proximity to the network of public spaces and cultural institutions that the historic center houses make it the next reference in terms of space for cultural and artistic events.
The design premises demand that the building be a public good, that is, that prevents rivalry between users during its use, as well as social exclusion. A building that promotes internal circulation by achieving spatial variants such as intensity of use, programmatic juxtaposition, sequence, public space, privacy, landscape, among others. In short, if the CC AYNI is inserted in the city, the city is inserted in the Cultural Center.
The building: Location / Unit vs Differentiation
Inscribed in a mediating lot of 8800.00 square meters, the building is projected as a modern, sober and efficient structure capable of concentrating the different technical and administrative activities of the DRC Cusco. These activities are complemented with the equipment of the Cultural Center. The meeting of dissimilar functions and the establishment of transitions that go from the public to the private configures the project in three main areas:
The door / Punku
The theater becomes the face of the building for the city. As an urban landmark, its proportions and location generate a public footbridge that functions as a link between Huáscar Avenue and the main plaza of the project. Its linear geometry allows the confluence of commercial and cultural activities, increasing the spatial variants to the interior of the place.
The zocalo / Rumi
The main public spaces of the building define the spatial organization of the cultural plaza. Below it, on the -4.00 mt level, are the transformable events room, the film library and the multipurpose parking lot designed to house fairs and events. A ramp works as a link between the plaza and the environments located below it, maximizing permeability and traffic between the city and the building.
Additionally, the relationship between the CC Ayni, the market and the Event Garden of the Cusqueña beer is proposed from the establishment of possible doors or links. These will work mainly as public areas of transition between the different programs of the socket and can function as connectors in case possible changes in the immediate environment arise.
The Body / Kurku
On the zocalo, a monolithic building conceived in each of its levels as a free floor unifies the different spaces and administrative and technical activities of the Cultural Center.
