As indicated by the IDB, in its report Voces Emergentes, Perceptions on the Quality of Urban Life in Latin America and the Caribbean, public spaces are central elements of the implementation of sustainable development in cities. Parks such as squares and walks, contribute to the increase of the quality of life of people.
In this report, and as a result of the survey carried out in the Emerging and Sustainable Cities Initiative (2001-2014) in different cities and megacities of Latin America, as regards the megacities, São Paulo and Lima are the cities in which more priority is given to public spaces, placing the theme among the top ten in the classification.

If we compare this gap with other cities in the region, such as Montevideo 12 m2 per inhabitant, Santiago 3.7 m2 per inhabitant, Bogotá 4.1 m2 per inhabitant or Medellin with a 4.04 or other cities that have implemented development plans promoting public spaces such as Sao Paulo 11 m2 Porto Alegre 12 m2 respectively.
Lima being a mega city in 2018 of 9.3 million inhabitants and that 2035 could exceed 12 million we see that we still have a way to go.
This panel reflects on the current problem of public spaces in the city of Lima with a view to the year 2035, seeking to promote new urban practices and incentives for the different actors involved in the development of our city.
